Why Every Manager Needs a Coach It's every engineer's fondest dream and worst nightmare: to be promoted out of the safe, familiar world of building products into the fluid, exciting, but frightening world of managing. Unfortunately, too many promising engineers are pushed into leadership roles with little or no training and nowhere to turn for support or information. Do You Have the Resources You Need? It's no wonder that many don't flourish in the job, because they don't have any resources to support them, or anyone to ask for help. It's very difficult for a new manager to go to his boss with endless questions, and he no longer has the same collegial relationship with his old teammates. Management training programs can help, but there are still thousands of day-to-day questions that need to be answered. Where Can You Go for Support? If you're a new manager, or a veteran manager in a new role, I can help by providing coaching tailored just for first line and mid-level managers, and especially for those who are just learning their new job. This coaching won't take the place of management training, but it will supplement it by giving you a safe resource you can turn to for information or reassurance. And since I'm outside your set of direct reports or your bosses, you can discuss problems, work out new strategies, and practice management techniques without having to worry about how you look to the rest of the organization. Check Me OutEven if you're doing well in your job, it couldn't hurt to contact me to talk about how things could be improved. I've helped a lot of engineers break into management (and some managers return to engineering) and I've helped managers get promoted up the ladder - I'm sure I can provide the same help for you. Even in one free call, I can probably help you find ways to improve your situation, or at least to understand the craziness going on around you.
